Policies and Parking

Arrival
Check-in times are either before 12 noon or between 4pm and 7pm. If you intend to arrive after 7pm then we can let you in via the key safe next to the front door. Please call when you have arrived and he will give you the code and direct you to your room. Please make sure we are holding all the correct information regarding the guests in your room for security and fire safety purposes. Payment is on check in unless you arrive late in which case payment will be taken after breakfast on the first morning of your stay.

Departure
Upon departure please check your room for all your belongings and leave your key either with a member of staff on duty or on the key rack next to the front door. If you cannot find a staff member please ring the hand bell you will find on the window sill above the guest book table.
Check-out is by 10am. We are sometimes able to arrange later check outs by prior arrangement. Please discuss with us on arrival. There is a supplemental charge of £10 for every hot after 10am. We are able to store luggage securely after departure if you would like to wander around Richmond free of baggage, again ask a member of staff.

Wi-Fi Access
We have free internet access. The network is listed as The Castle House and the password is castlehouserichmond.
Those in the Aysgarth Room may find it helpful to access the internet on the ground floor as The Castle House is a very old and wonky building with thick walls and floors that even the best broadband can’t beat! Once you are logged in you will find it stays with you when you are back in your room.

Smoking Policy
All areas of The Castle House including bedrooms, bathrooms and corridors are completely Non-Smoking.
Smoking is permitted outside the front of the building. Please be aware there is a non-negotiable fee of £100 charged to your card for anyone breaking the law and smoking within the premises, to enable us to completely clean and ventilate the room overnight to avoid discomfort for future guests.

Accessibility
The Castle warmly welcomes all guests. However, due to the historic significance of our early 18th Century Georgian building, the property is not wheelchair accessible. Removal of necessary physical barriers for accessibility is not readily achievable as such removal would threaten or destroy the historic significance of the property. As such there is no elevator, bedrooms on the 1st floor are accessed by climbing 14 stairs. 2nd floor another 14 stairs. The ground-floor breakfast room and sitting room are wheelchair accessible. We are more than happy to talk with any guest directly to determine appropriate accommodation options. If you are a blue badge holder you can park in front of the B&B and in the market square nearby for as long as you like without charge.

Parking
Parking is available outside The Castle House and in the Marketplace. It is free public parking (8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, there are no regulations on Sundays) and a disc is required, which we can loan to you on arrival. This disc allows you two hours free parking within the disc zone. If you require more time you must move your vehicle after the 2 hours to another street within the zone. A parking leaflet is available in the B&B which outlines the parking zones clearly. If you return to your car after 6pm and change the disc time to 8am then you are good from 8am to 10am the next morning. So you need not worry about moving your vehicle before breakfast.
Alternatively, there are also several pay car parks within easy walking distance that charge £1.80 per hour or £5.40 for 24 hours. You can also get a 5 day ticket that costs £18. Please be aware you can only pay with cash or using the Ringo App.
Please ask a member of staff when checking in and they will make sure you get parked appropriately as we know it is a major concern for many of our guests and we do not want it to be a cause of stress on your trip.
Please be aware that a market is set up in the Marketplace on a Wednesday and Saturday at 5am. Please make sure you do not park on the cobbles in the vicinity of the Octagon (The Cenotaph) on a Tuesday and Friday evening.
