Take a look at what our guests have to say about us.
We had a two night stay in this lovely hotel. The host was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and all local produce.Richmond is a nice place and this hotel is ideally situated.I would highly recommend it.The room we stayed in was very quiet and peaceful.
Really enjoyed our stay. The room was very comfortable, lovely and quiet – so peaceful sleeping was a given; the breakfast excellent (mixed fruit & yoghurt and full English a must) and the actual location couldn’t be bettered. Nigel and staff, the perfect hosts.
Myself, my husband and our daughter stayed here on May 25th and it was lovely. Our rooms were clean and very comfortable and we were welcomed with a complimentary drink on arrival. Our room, The Redmire, was well appointed with extra bed linen, dressing gowns and toiletries for the bathroom as well as a well stocked tea and coffee tray. We had a very good night’s sleep after celebrating with friends at their wedding. Our daughter stayed in The Reeth room and said it was perfect for her. Breakfast was delicious (ordered the day before) and served in the dining room by a very helpful and friendly member of the team. This is a very old building, established well before computer aided diagrams and there isn’t a straight wall in the place but it’s just perfect the way it is!
Nigel was a brilliant host…nothing was too much trouble and everything was so good. Our room with its four poster was lovely and warm and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was well served and of a high standard. No complaints about anything…..defiantly five stars.
Excellent service. I would give six stars if I could. Accommodating to our needs and willing to go the extra mile. If you’re doing the England coast to coast hike, this accommodation will be a highlight of your journey. Nigel is one of the best.
Absolutely give this place a visit, but only if you like quirky. The room we stayed in was lovely and clean and kept to the style of the property. Breakfast is fresh and served hot and very welcoming staff.
We stayed here on the 23rd august and received a warm welcome from Sue the owner. We were shown to our beautiful large room which was immaculate with a lovely en-suite which had a slipper bath. We had a nice chat to Sue and Gordon and were advised as to where to go for an evening meal (Rustique french restaurant which was fab). After a great nights sleep we came down to a gorgeous breakfast. We would recommend this bed and breakfast! To park outside you need to get a permit from either the local shop or the bed and breakfast.
What a place, a roll top bath and king size sleigh bed! A bottle of wine, chocs and sherry in our room. Breakfast was so very special and Sue was lovely. I would stay every night if I could!
We have just had an excellent stay at this beautiful period house. Our king sized room was more like a suite. The furniture and all the contents of the house have been chosen with love & care and reflect the character of the home, and its owners. The bedroom was sumptuous, with luxury quality bed linen, curtains and lighting. The bathroom contained a roll top bath. Small personal touches, of chocolates, bottle of wine, bath robes and sherry in a decanter, with crystal glasses, made it a special treat. Our room had a view of Richmond Castle walls, which were very close by. Sue and Gordon are friendly and welcoming hosts and as guests you are made to feel that all the features of their beautiful home are at your disposal. The breakfast was presented professionally and was delicious. An antique sideboard in the charming dining room was laid with summer berries and other breakfast choices. The location of the House is perfect, being less than 1 minute’s walk to Richmond Market square. I would definitely recommend The Olde Castle House to anyone who is visiting Richmond. There was nothing I could add which would have made my stay better, and there were definitely no bad points.
Staying in this B&B must be a treat for any Regency lover. Although the building is very old it combines all the charm one assocites with a period drama with the modern additive of excellent customer service. Sue and Gordon are delightful hosts who have lovingly restored the building from a blank canvas with an eclectic mix of antiques and modern furnishings. When we arrived we were greeted with a warm Yorkshire welcome and little extras in our room such as sherry (in a decanter) chocolates, and complimentary hand made soap.
The room was comfortable and quirky: sloping floors and ceilings plus a lovely separate dressing room in addition to the ensuite- complete with roll top bath. Without being intrusive or overbearing Sue offered advice about the area and Gordon is one of those true old fashioned gentlemen with manners to match. Breakfast was delightful in their flagship period dining room. We were asked what we would like and whilst my husband opted for a full English I had a simple poached egg after a bowl of perfectly ripened fresh fruit. Everything was piping hot including the tea which was served from underneath a tea cosy! If jane Austen hadn’t beaten me to it I’m sure I could have set a winning novel here!!

The room was amazing. We had a great meal at the Royal Indian next door to the hotel. Richmond overall is a beautiful little gem of a town nestled in the Yorkshire dales . Had a fantastic stay. Amazing Breakfast, and a wonderful host rounded a perfect weekend off.
